Synopsis

Great Expectations is one of the most famous novels written by Charles Dickens and was first published in 1861. The story is narrated by Pip, an orphan who grows up in a poor household with his sister and her kind husband, the blacksmith Joe Gargery.

Pip’s life changes dramatically when he encounters an escaped convict named Abel Magwitch and later visits the mysterious home of the wealthy and eccentric Miss Havisham. There he meets the beautiful but cold-hearted Estella, who inspires Pip to dream of becoming a gentleman.

When Pip suddenly receives financial support from an unknown benefactor, he moves to London to pursue a new life among the upper class. However, as he grows older, Pip learns difficult lessons about loyalty, wealth, pride, and the true meaning of success.

Through Pip’s journey, Dickens explores themes such as social class, ambition, love, redemption, and personal growth. Great Expectations remains one of the most beloved works of English literature and continues to inspire readers with its powerful story and unforgettable characters.
